This year, American denim brand Lee reached a huge milestone; 125 years in business and to celebrated they threw one amazing party. Think confetti, bubbly and american frat party plastic red cups ( as seen in the campaign images above).

When you consider the come and go nature of contemporary fashion, it’s a significant feat, and the brand has sure come a long way since the early days of dressing Kansas cowboys and ranch hands back in 1898.

Now at the forefront of innovative denim and apparel design they constantly stay ahead of the competition which is how they’ve forged a place in the every day lives of Australians. Now a staple for every thrill seeker, rule breaker and party person from Bunbury to Bondi!

love | bc by blessed are the meek

Last month I brought you a snapshot of my favourite pieces from the new diffusion line, B.C. by Bless’ed Are The Meek. In stark contrast to the Bless’ed Are The Meek’s main line, B.C. (an acronym for Basic Collection), is all about clean lines and simplicity. I caught up with their designer, Tarek Kourhani to discuss everything you need to know about this fresh new label.

What is the story behind the name, B.C. ?

It started off as a working title – for the Blessed Capsule, but it also stands for basics collection, beautiful clothing or simply BC!

B.C. is very minimal. Is this a reflection of your own personal style ?

Working in fashion there is a tendency to pair back and dress in a functional blank canvas way. This allows you to be able to focus on the creative process without being distracted or influenced by your environment, which includes the clothing you wear.

What do you find is the most challenging aspects of creating and designing ?

Finding the time to focus without distractions is always a challenge, but with B.C. the most challenging aspect would be staying true to the minimal aesthetic whilst evolving the design.

What inspires you ?

Art, simplicity and natural forms.

What do you find the most rewarding and challenging aspect of being a designer?

I enjoy travelling for inspiration and I love seeing beautiful women wearing my clothes.

What is your every day fashion advice for the australian girl ?

Keep it simple.

When people purchase a piece from the B.C. collection what do you think is the most important thing they should keep in mind?

The versatility. You can dress it up or down, and quite a few styles are reversible four different ways, so you have four looks in one piece.

B.C. is a collection of cool easy basics perfect for every girls closet – what are the basic staples in your own closet ?

Leather, denim and a white shirt.

What does the future for B.C. by Bless’ed Are The Meek hold?

We have had a lot of interest from overseas distributors, so global expansion will be next.

You can view the entire B.C. collection on the Bless’ed Are The Meek website and shop select pieces from the range on The Iconic and Grand Social
